Lesson Plan

Teacher plays a video.
Teacher asks students to watch the carefully and guess what is the tenses was used in the video.
Teacher introduce the lesson of the day which is " Simple Present Tense".
Teacher explains about the simple present tense.
Teacher distributes exercise sheets to students.
Teacher guide the students.
Teacher discuss the answer with students.
Teacher divides the students into pair.
Teacher asks to students to go out from the class and create sentences about the surrounding.
Teacher asks students to present their answer in front of the class.
Teacher sum up the lesson by asking few questions to the students.

Activity (Simple present)

Write sentences and questions with the present simple.[(+) indicates  positive statements, (-) choose negative statements and (?) indicates questions.]  


E.G: he/ usually get up late (+) He usually gets up late.

1. Anna / like painting (?)
2. my sister / have many story books (+)
3. I / go on Facebook often (-)
4. my sister / study in London (+)
5. my neighbour / have three children (?)
6. when / the film start (?)
7. he / go swimming twice a week (+)
8. we / often talk about school (-)
9. how often / you visit your grandparents (?)

Present Simple Tense

Now that you know what tenses are from our previous post, let us look in detail into Simple Present Tense...

1. Used to talk about :

• Habits and routines 
• Things you do every day /week / year 

E.G: I go there every year.  

        I go on Facebook every day.  

• Things that are generally true/ always happen

E.G: He usually gets up late.
        The Moon orbits the Earth.

        My neighbour has two children. 

     2. Use don't / doesn't to make negative sentences.

E.G: I don't go on Facebook very often.

        He doesn't read newspapers.

     3. Use do / does to make question 

E.G: Do you live with your parents?

        Where does your sister work?

    4. We often use the present simple with adverbs of frequency(always, usually, often,sometimes, hardly ever, never)

• Adverbs of frequency go before the main verbs.
•  Adverbs of frequency go after be.

          She's never ill. NOT she's ill never. 

• Remember to use a positive verb with never.

          It never rains.NOT it doesn't never rain.

E.G: We often go out on Friday night.

        She doesn't usually study at weekends.

        I'm never ill.

        He's always late for work.

    

     5. Expressions of frequency (every day, once a week, etc.) usually go at the end of a sentence.

E.G: She gets up early every day.

        We have English classes twice a week.

Tenses

Tenses are one of the common problems students often face. Therefore, we have decided to give you a brief introduction on what tenses are first....

A verb tense is a particular form / set of forms of a verb that shows at what time, past, present or future, the action of the verb takes place.

English has only two basic tenses:

• Present tense
• Past tense

It sounds simple.... doesn't it? So, all you have to remember is that tenses lets you determine the time of which the action took place...
