Present Simple Tense

Now that you know what tenses are from our previous post, let us look in detail into Simple Present Tense...
  1. Used to talk about :
  • Habits and routines 
  • Things you do every day /week / year 
E.G: I go there every year.  
        I go on Facebook every day.  
  • Things that are generally true/ always happen
E.G: He usually gets up late.
        The Moon orbits the Earth.
        My neighbour has two children. 

     2. Use don't / doesn't to make negative sentences.

E.G: I don't go on Facebook very often.
        He doesn't read newspapers.

     3. Use do / does to make question 

E.G: Do you live with your parents?
        Where does your sister work?


    4. We often use the present simple with adverbs of frequency(always, usually, often,sometimes, hardly ever, never)

  • Adverbs of frequency go before the main verbs.
  •  Adverbs of frequency go after be.
          She's never ill. NOT she's ill never. 
  • Remember to use a positive verb with never.
          It never rains.NOT it doesn't never rain.

E.G: We often go out on Friday night.
        She doesn't usually study at weekends.
        I'm never ill.
        He's always late for work.
    
     5. Expressions of frequency (every day, once a week, etc.) usually go at the end of a sentence.

E.G: She gets up early every day.
        We have English classes twice a week.
